Any homebrewer will tell you that the equation for great beer, wine, or mead is simple: the quality of one's "brew" is directly proportional to the quality of the information the brewer receives.
Many homebrewers get their start with a instant beer kit, or by having a homebrewing friend show them the steps necessary to create their own first batch.
Over time, ingredients become fresher, equipment continues to scale larger and larger, more contests are entered, and more experimental brews are attempted. What remains constant, however, is the input of friends and homebrewers. Without the knowledge of the homebrewing community, a homebrewer's beer would never become better.
