About the Wootown Brewers
Who We Are
The Wootown Brewers are a beer, wine, mead and beverage "homebrewing" club based in Northern Maryland.
The "Woo" of Wootown refers to the sound of the train whistle made by the many trains that pass through Phoenix, Maryland, where the group was founded.
Membership is open to any person of legal drinking age. Member expertise ranges from novice to seasoned brewers with 15+ years of experience.

The mission of the Free State Homebrew Guild is to promote cordial interaction between Maryland homebrew clubs and coordinate statewide events. Members of other brew clubs frequently visit our meetings, and our members oftentimes join theirs.
What We Do
Many members enjoy all-grain brewing and others do a wonderful job with extract. Some make wine, others make mead, and still others try their own experimental beverages. We simply encourage members to brew better beer, wine, and mead no matter which path they choose. We are not a competition-based organization, although many of our members have garnered prizes in local, regional, and national competitions. Our philosophy on a homebrewing club is one of comraderie and constructive criticism.
A number of members also have specific talents due to their full-time professions. Some are welders and technicians. Some work in computers and technology. While even others are in creative and artistics endeavors. Meeting together as a brew club provides incredible opportunities to network, to provide recommendations and offer assistance, and meet other like-minded individuals with a passion for good beer.
How To Become a Member
