December 2006 Meeting - Holiday Party with the Guild

by Tom Davidson, President 5. December 2006 06:44

The holiday party was a big success again this year, thanks to everyone who made it out. From the Guild: "Every year we seem to exceed the previous year - you're quite a generous bunch. Before expenses, we brought in over $4000 this year - over $1000 more than last year! Our two adopted families from the House of Ruth got everything (and then some) on their wish lists, we delivered 240 lbs of food to the Maryland Food Bank, 4 bags of mens clothing went to the Christopher Place Employment Academy (a shelter and job/skills training center for homeless men), and the remaining funds will be used to purchase supplies for soldier care packages. We even had additional perishable food and clothing items that will go to the House of Ruth."

My thanks to everyone for their generosity. I hope you had a good time, met some new people, enjoyed the plentiful food and found a decent beer somewhere.

Thanks also to Duclaw Brewing for the cask of very tasty Black Jack Imperial Stout and to Clipper City Brewing for allowing us the use of the brewery and opening up their taps. Jim Wagner and Hugh Sisson are fantastic supporters of the homebrew community, hats off to them both.

Welcome to Wootown

The Wootown Brewers are a "homebrewing" club based in Northern Maryland. Membership is open to any person of legal drinking age. Member expertise ranges from novice to seasoned brewers with 15+ years of experience. Many members enjoy all-grain brewing and others do a wonderful job with extract. We simply encourage members to brew better beer no matter which path they choose. The benefits of membership include organized group brews 3-4 times per year, group trips and gatherings, and the fellowship and guidance of other brewers. Membership is only $25 per year, $35 for couples. Come on out and join, and share your brewing experiences with us.
