May 2006 Meeting - Big Brew Day
The Wootown Brewers held their May 2006 meeting on Saturday, May 5, 2006 to coincide with the American Homebrewers Association Big Brew Day.
Each year on the first Saturday in May, homebrewers unite non-brewing and brewing friends and family to celebrate National Homebrew Day, joining with thousands of homebrewers from around the world in brewing the same recipes and sharing a simultaneous toast at noon Central Time.
This year's Big Brew was held at the house of Vice President Don Burns and his wife,Linda, in Towson, Maryland. Don and Linda's amazing backyard provided plenty of room to brew with the club's newly-acquired 55-gallon stainless steel drums as brew kettles, as well as room to move around, grill, and work on the other new drums.
While the AHA did provide three specific styles of beer to brew, Wootown members elected to instead brew an American Pale Ale with chinook hops. The club brewed a total of 90 gallons that were distributed to its members after the meeting.
Wootown would like to extend its thanks to Don and Linda for their hospitality.
